Thorough Examination of Arboricultural Lifting Equipment - LOLER Update: Session 2

Earlier this year Focus on Forestry First were preparing to deliver this update training across Wales for those who were in need of their Thorough Examination of Arboricultural Lifting Equipment Update/Refresher.

Due to the ongoing pandemic this had to be postponed. However, Chris Cooper-Abbs has broken the one day update into 3 x two hour refresher modules and will deliver these sessions via Webinar.

Each session will update your knowledge on particular modules, which combined will provide you with a full update.

Objectives

Session Two:

  • Manufacturers unique identifiers, and their interpretation.

  • Life span and disposal of equipment, manufacturers specific guidance and arboricultural interpretation.

  • Terms & abbreviations relating to thorough examination.

Who should attend?

  • A qualified competent person as defined within LOLER 1998 requiring an update.

    Please note: These sessions will be aimed mainly at Arborists.

Instructor

Chris Cooper-Abbs

Chris is the founder of Arb Matters and an expert on arboriculture in the UK. He has been working in the tree care industry for almost 20 years. During this time he has developed a wealth of experience and knowledge.

His work takes him all over the UK and abroad, offering tree care solutions, delivering Lantra Awards and bespoke training courses and City and Guilds NPTC assessment. He carries out assessor verifications, Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor Assessments, health and safety consultancy and quality audits for the leading arboricultural awarding organisations.

He also acts as expert witness and completes accident investigation. Chris has spoken at several conferences and given many practical demonstrations. You’ll often find him at prominent industry events giving information on industry good practice, legislative requirements, equipment use and system configuration. Chris’s name has become synonymous with high quality and efficiency.

  • Legislation and industry good practice pertaining to thorough examination.

  • Pre use checks, interim inspection and thorough examination intervals and reporting requirements.

  • Record keeping, traceability and reporting in accordance with the Safe Use of Lifting Equipment Approved Code of Practice.

Session Three: Friday 10th July 2020

This session will cover

  • Types of damage and defects commonly found on arboricultural equipment, including inspection techniques and the determination of appropriate Safe Working Loads.
