An Introduction to Winter Tree Identification (16J-WTID)

Identifying trees through the winter, when they don’t hold any leaves or fruit can be really tricky. This workshop will provide an opportunity to look at an array of British native species & learn how to confidently identify them.

Objectives:

  • Understand the identifying features of trees.

  • Identify trees using a key and an identification book.

  • Recognise a range of tree species from bud and twig samples

  • Recognise a range of tree species in the field.

  • Recognise similarities in trees of the same genus.

  • Understand some of the habitats that different species occupy
