Lead Instructor

Chris Jones

Chris has nearly 40 years of forestry and woodland management experience, including 35 years in Wales. He began with the Forestry Commission in S E Wales, managing harvesting and restocking. Later, at Forest Research, he developed projects to support the forestry sector in Wales. Chris led field teams and served as a liaison between Forest Research and FC Wales, transferring valuable information.

At Forest Research, he collaborated with specialists on silviculture, expanding his knowledge in environmental elements and tree physiology for sustainable forest management. He provided technical input at various FC and Institute of Chartered Foresters events, covering topics like species diversity, ground preparation, and silvicultural systems.

Chris now advises private foresters and forest management businesses, offering training on matching ground preparation and species to sites. He is the go-to forester in Wales for issues related to tree establishment, species choice, and silvicultural techniques.
