Please be aware, this is a 2 day event.
The course is divided into 4 main sessions as follows:
Session 1: Climate Change - facts for foresters
Session 2: Designing for climate change
Session 3: Managing for climate change
Session 4: Mitigation of climate change and its effects
Sessions 2 and 3 are supported by practical site visits to new planting sites and mature woodland.
Learner Outcomes
Understand the factors contributing to climate change, list the range of predicted scenarios and their potential impacts upon British forestry management
Demonstrate an understanding of the techniques required to plan for the creation of new woodlands or urban forests considering the impacts of climate change
Demonstrate an understanding of the techniques required to manage existing woodland in a productive and sustainable fashion within the predicted effects of climate change
To differentiate between climate change adaptation and mitigation and the application of the latter.
Programme
The course starts at 9.30am on Day One and finishes at 5.00pm. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks and 45 mins for lunch.
The course starts at 9.00am on Day Two and finishes at 4.30pm. There is a short written assessment at the end of the day. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks and 45 mins for lunch.
